Today's Horoscope This week This month

Cancer horoscope for May 2024

This is a month that makes sense of why the lunar nodes have been policing your work/life balance all year and why this has become more important than ever. By the time you reached the end of April, the Sun had been gone from your career sector for 10 days and with Venus having just left the day before this is when the push to get this professional year up to speed should have ended. While Mercury was still here, still in his early days back in direct motion he wasn't in any hurry. Yet how April ended and how May will begin are two completely different realities, for it is just as you move into the new month that Mars, the planet of passion and the warrior planet of the cosmos arrives.

Mars is the last of the faster planets to move through your career sector this year and here for the whole of May and into the early weeks of June, rather than dialling back this professional year is catching its second wind. It has been two years since Mars was here and while Mercury is giving you the intellectually savvy edge needed to work smart, these could be some of the busiest six weeks of the year, rivalled only by a busy start to the year. Meanwhile, the reason for a need for balance is that while this will see Mars leave your sector of adventure, travel, learning and discovery, Saturn and Neptune are staying on and they won't be ignored.

At the same time, while the Sun will always spend the first three weeks of May in your friendship sector, with Venus having just returned and Jupiter leaving on 26th May, this is an important month for your social life, friendships, teamwork and for both personal and professional networking. However, the biggest need for the right work/life balance will come later in the month, when the Sun returns to a nostalgic and reflective part of your chart on 21st May to begin the month long wind down of your old solar year. This will be followed by Venus' return on 24th May, with a chance to take your heart on a nostalgic trip down memory lane ahead of her return to Cancer next month. However, it is on 26th May that Jupiter will return to begin the 13 month wind down of your current 12 year Jupiter cycle of expansion.

Love & Romance

While there is no planetary activity on the romantic front, a Full Moon in your romantic sector at the end of April has given matters of the heart a boost, at what is nearly always going to be the least active point in any year on the romantic front. The Moon managed to move through during Mars' final days in an adventurous part of your chart, with their friendly aspect bringing together a mix of romance, passion and adventure that you have hopefully been able to hold onto. Mars is just leaving as you move into the new month and while things are taking a busier turn and especially professionally, this gives you something to hold onto.

Your romantic sector will remain empty until the Moon comes full circle, moving through your romantic sector again from 21st May to 23rd May, making these some of the most romantically charged days of the month. It is a different story on the relationship front, where three months after returning for what is normally a three month visit to your relationship sector and to begin her first deep dive into your relationship needs and priorities in four years, instead of preparing to leave the dwarf planet Ceres is instead slowing down ahead of a retrograde turn on 15th May that will keep her here until December.

As you move into the new month the Moon has just left your relationship sector, something that allows you to begin the month emotionally engaged from the start, but also with a sense of the support available. The Moon was here when Venus, the planet of love returned to your friendship sector and just as a week after turning direct in your communication sector, the asteroid Juno is back in the game. Venus will connect directly with Juno in the early days of the month, getting the month off to a good start on the communication and relationship fronts and when it comes to friendship and relationship building. The Moon will come full circle with another chance to check in from 26th May to 28th May.

Business & Career

As you move into the new month it has been less than 48 hours since Venus left your career sector and 11 days since the Sun left, something that will always take the solar spotlight off your career situation and matters at this time each year. While Mercury is still here and he is helping you to keep your head in the game and your feet on the ground, still in his early days in direct motion and still barely moving, this has given you a chance to pause. However, not for long because less than 48 hours after Venus left and just as you are moving into the new month, Mars returns to begin his first visit in two years.

This will not only keep the momentum going, but for the next six weeks, Mars will not only fuel your professional passions, fighting and competitive spirit but the drive to make things happen. This is when the gloves come off and when instead of slowing down, the professional year itself catches its second wind. This is when you will realise that everything until now has just been to get you to the starting line of what will be the real push to get this professional year up to speed. Helping you to get an early feel for the warrior planet's influence will be the Moon's return from 5th May to 7th May. As well as fuelling your professional instincts and imagination, this will ensure you are emotionally and intuitively engaged as you move into this new chapter.

Mercury is here until 16th May, helping you to work smarter and to keep your head in the game and your feet on the ground, though when he leaves the gloves could come off. It is a week later that the Moon will not only return to your work sector from 23rd May to 26th May, but as a Full Moon. A friendly aspect to Mars in your career sector will bring him into the loop, with the Moon able to act as a trigger or a catalyst on both the job and career fronts, giving things a timely push. With Mars not leaving your career sector until 9th May, there is plenty of time to explore where this might lead.

Money

Having the Moon in your financial sector from 1st May to 3rd May is more than just a chance to begin the new month with your financial instincts and imagination fuelled while feeling emotionally and intuitively engaged from the start. While this is an ordinary monthly visit, with the Moon returning every four weeks with a chance to check in, it is the timing that makes this a lot more significant. With Pluto turning retrograde on 3rd May, this will be a chance to get the most out of the planet of change and transformation's final days in direct motion until later in the year. Pluto might have come to a standstill, but he still looking to the future.

It is just over an hour before the Moon is due to leave that Pluto will turn retrograde, ensuring you are plugged in and aware as the tide turns and the focus shifts to the rear view mirror. This will also anchor Pluto into position, making him a stationary target when the Sun returns to an intuitive and imaginative part of your chart on 21st May, Venus on 24th May and Jupiter on 26th May. As well as bringing the planets of money and luck together here for the first time in over a decade, as they return, they will one by one form a friendly aspect to Pluto, firing up your financial confidence and imagination just as he is calling for change as you look to the past for inspiration.

Having moved through your financial sector in the early days of the month, this will give the Moon time to come full circle for a second visit from 28th May to 30th May. By then Pluto will have been in retrograde motion for nearly four weeks while a friendly aspect to the Sun, Venus and Jupiter as it moves through will once again fuel your financial confidence and imagination. Meanwhile, with no planetary activity in your income sector, the Moon's return to your income sector from 13th May to 16th May can sharpen your nose for money and act as a trigger, making these the most potentially lucrative days of the month. With Mars in your career sector all month, this will be a chance to exploit any income potential this is creating.

Health

With no planetary activity in your health sector, it is the Moon's monthly visits that have become key to checking in and staying on track. However, the timing makes this month's visit more than just a chance to get an intuitive read on what your body is telling you. The Moon will move through from 23rd May to 26th May and had this happened just a few days earlier it would have been an ordinary monthly visit. Instead, the Sun's return to a nostalgic and reflective part of your chart on 21st May to begin the month long wind down of your old solar year means that they will clash to create a Full Moon. At a time of year when you will often have less wind in your sails and gas in your tank, this can put your physical resources to the test.
